Pollock Bench (Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness)

ELEVATION CHANGE:   700'  (4500' - 5200'') 

Using Undeveloped Camp Sites

LOCATION:    10 miles west of Grand Junction

LENGTH:   7.3 miles round trip 

DIFFICULTY:   Moderate to  strenuous   

APPROXIMATE TIME TO COMPLETE:    2 - 3 hours 

SEASON:   March - November 

FACILITIES:    Rest room (wheelchair accessible) 

DRINKING WATER:   None.  Plan to pack in a minimum of 1 gallon per person, per day. 

DIRECTIONS:   From Grand Junction, take I-70 west to the Fruita exit, turn left and cross back over I-70 and go 1.5 miles to Kings View Estate.  Turn right into the subdivision and stay on the main road until it turns into a dirt road.  Go approximately 6 miles to parking area/trailhead on the left side of the road.

HIKING/HORSEBACK RIDING:   Within the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness, this trail accesses the Pollock Canyon drainage, Rattlesnake Canyon and Flume Canyon. 

ATTRACTIONS:  Talus slopes, slickrock cliffs and fascinating sculpted rocks dominate the scenery along the trail. Opportunities for challenging hiking, solitude and wildlife viewing.

NOTE:  Devils/Flume/Pollock Canyons have a designated trail system for hiking and equestrian users.  Please help us by staying on the designated routes and minimizing your impact to these special canyons.
