Knowles Canyon Trail  (Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness)

ELEVATION CHANGE:   From trailhead: 809' (5480' - 6289') 

Using Undeveloped Camp Sites

LOCATION:   28 miles southwest of Grand Junction

LENGTH:   From trailhead: 3.5 miles to canyon, one-way 

DIFFICULTY:  Moderately strenuous 

APPROXIMATE TIME TO COMPLETE:   2 - 3 hours from trailhead 

SEASON:   May - October 

FACILITIES:   None 

DRINKING WATER:   None. Plan to pack in a minimum of 1 gallon per person, per day. 

DIRECTIONS:  Upper Trailhead:   From Grand Junction, travel west on Grand Avenue, cross over two bridges, at the next stop light turn left on to Monument Road, turn left at "D" Road. Follow D road until you come to a fork in the road, go left on to Little Park Road. Follow Little Park Road until it meets up with DS Road, take a left on to DS Road to the Glade Park Store.  At the Glade Park Store take a right on to 16.5 Road go .5 miles to BS Road, turn left, it's another 12 miles to the trailhead. 
River Access:   18 miles down river from the Loma boat launch on river left. 

Within the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness, Knowles is the longest canyon systems in the area.  River access is popular for exploring and discovering the canyon's variety and beauty.  Good access to the rolling uplands and great views can be found at the  Knowles Trailhead.  Excellent opportunity for solitude and wildlife viewing.  NOTE:  Knowles Canyon Trail is part of the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness, motorized and mechanized travel is prohibited on the trail.
