Devils Canyon (Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness)

Using Undeveloped Camp Sites

LOCATION:   9 miles west of Grand Junction

LENGTH:   5 miles round trip

DIFFICULTY:  Varies 

APPROXIMATE TIME TO COMPLETE:   3 - 3-1/2 hours

SEASON:   March - November 

FACILITIES:   None

DRINKING WATER:   None. Plan to pack in a minimum of 1 gallon per person, per day. 

DIRECTIONS:   From Grand Junction, take I-70 west to the Fruita exit, turn left and cross back over I-70 and go 1.5 miles to Kingsview Estates.  Turn right in to the subdivision and stay on the main road, go approximately .5 miles, Devils Canyon trailhead will be on your left. 

HIKING/HORSEBACK RIDING:  This beautiful canyon offers spectacular scenery with opportunities for solitude and unconfined recreation. Just west of the Colorado National Monument, the red rock cliffs and secluded alcoves give the visitor freedom to explore.  There are a number of short loop trails available.   Opportunities for challenging hiking, solitude and viewing of desert bighorn sheep.  Seasonal closures may be implemented from April 1 - June 1 to protect lambing areas.  NOTE:  Devils Canyon trail is mostly within the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness; motorized travel is prohibited.   

NOTE:  Devils/Flume/Pollock Canyons have a designated trail system for hiking and equestrian users, due to the large number of users.  Please help us by staying on the designated routes and minimizing your impact to these special canyons.
