As mandated by the Colorado Canyons National Conservation Area and Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness Act of 2000 (The Act), the Grand Junction field office and the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area (McInnis Canyons NCA) staff are preparing a Resource Management Plan (RMP) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to guide the management of the McInnis Canyons NCA for the next 10 to 15 years.

In recognition of the local community's historic involvement in public land management, the Act included specific language directing the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to incorporate a citizen's Advisory Council as an integral element in the RMP/EIS planning process and plan implementation. The McInnis Canyons NCA Advisory Council is composed of ten members from the local community, appointed by the Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton. The Advisory Council meets monthly, and all meetings are open to the public.
