Windy Gap is located along the Colorado River Headwaters Scenic Byway. Windy Gap is located on Hwy 40 about a mile west of Granby Colorado. A great place for a picnic or just to watch migratory and nesting waterfowl.

Trough Road Watchable Wildlife Route

From Kremmling take Hwy 9 south about 1 mile to Grand County 1 (Trough Road). Your tour begins on Grand County 1 (Trough Road), changes to Eagle County 11, and ends when you reach State Route 131. Trough road is about 30 mile long and runs through Grand and Eagle counties. Information Kiosk locations are located on each end of the route.

Look for three important and very different wildlife habitats along the Trough Road Watchable Wildlife Route.

• Riparian Communities are associated with the banks and borders of waterways and have high diversity and numbers of wildlife.
• Sagebrush-Grasslands adjacent to the Trough Road are important to deer and elk in the winter and provide food and cover for a variety of smaller animals.
• Pinyon-Juniper are habitat for many animals but many of them visit on a seasonal basis, attracted by nesting sites, abundant food supplies or shelter from harsh winters at higher elevations.

Facilities along the tour route include two BLM campgrounds. The campgrounds provide boat launches (for rafts and kayaks), vault toilets, parking and opportunities for fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing and picnicking.
