There are several developed campgrounds on the Upper Colorado River.  These campgrounds have pit toilets, picnic benches, and fire grates.  They cannot be reserved and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Below is a description of the campground, its capacity, and its location on the river.  Other dispersed campsites along the river might contain a picnic table.

NOTE:  It is recommended that you bring portable toilets and firepans on every overnight trip, as it is not guaranteed that one of the developed campsites is available.

Cabin - This campsite is located on river right at river mile 14.6.  It is located about 1 mile above (north) the Radium Recreation Site.  This site is most accomodating to one camping group.

Cottonwood - This campsite is located on river left at river mile 14.7.  It is located about 1 mile above (north) the Radium Recreation Site.  This site is a large bench with many camping areas and can accomodate many groups.  It is also accessable by foot from County Road 11, though it requires a scramble over a steep hill.  High clearance 4x4 vehicles (suggested) may access the site from Labor Day to June 1.  This site is not accessible by vehicle in the summer months.

Island - This campsite is no longer considered a developed campsite because the pit toilet has been removed.  This campsite is located on river left at river mile 17.9, shortly after the Yarmony Rapid.  An eddy after the island allows access.  This site is best for one or two groups.  Please bring a portable toilet!

Benches - This campsite is located on river left at river mile 18.4.  There are three defined camping areas, but more groups might also find dispersed camping on this long bench.  This popular site is halfway between Radium and Rancho del Rio.
