North DesertSeason Dates: Year round Fees: None Site Overview: The North Desert is characterized by barren hills of mancos shale along the base of the Bookcliffs. The Grand Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Area is located in the North Desert, consisting of 17-square miles of desert open for cross country travel. A designated shooting range is located off 27 ¼ road. Brochures: None Map: None Directions: To Grand Valley OHV Area: From I-70, take the Horizon Drive exit. From the off ramp, go northeast on Horizon Drive, heading towards the airport. Take a left on H Road (this is the last road before you drive into the airport). Follow H Road around the curve to 27-1/4 Rd, turn right on to 27-1/4 Rd, travel 1.5 miles, you will see the trails off to your right. At this point, it is BLM property on both sides of 27-1/4 Rd; you will see several places suited for parking and offloading your OHVs. The shooting range is located farther down 27 ¼ Road and is outside of the Grand Valley OHV Area. Contact Information: Grand Junction Field Office 970-244-3000
