Using Undeveloped Camp Sites


ELEVATION CHANGE:   2500' 

LOCATION:   2.6 miles southwest of Grand Junction 

LENGTH OF TRAIL:   8.4 mile loop 

TECHNICAL LEVEL:    Difficult 

APPROXIMATE TIME TO COMPLETE:   2 - 4 hours 

SEASON:   March - November 

FACILITIES:   None 

DRINKING/STREAM WATER:   None.   Plan to pack in 1 gallon per person, per day. 

DIRECTIONS:   From Grand Junction, travel west on Grand Avenue, cross over two bridges, at the next stop light turn left on to Monument Road.  Turn left just before you cross the ditch on to D Rd.  Travel approximately 1 mile to where D Rd ends, go right on to Little Park Rd.  At mile marker 10, park and ride.

RIDING THE TRAIL:    From where you parked, travel up Little Park Rd approximately 0.3 miles and descend to the right down the single track, carefully.  At the bottom of the wash veer left to get on The Ribbon trail.   Mile 1.0, you'll see cairns, go left, into the box canyon.  Mile 1.4, you'll start your climb across sheet after sheet of slickrock, watch for the cairns showing the way.   After crossing the final and biggest slickrock, stay to the left and follow the jeep road left.  Mile 4.0, go left again at Little Park Rd.  Quick descent, back to where you started, mile 8.4.
