Using Undeveloped Camp Sites


ELEVATION:   5800' 

LOCATION:   2.6 miles southwest of Grand Junction 

LENGTH OF TRAIL:   7.5 miles round trip 

TECHNICAL ../level:   Moderate to difficult 

APPROXIMATE TIME TO COMPLETE:   1 - 1.5 hours 

SEASON:   March - November 

FACILITIES:   None 

DRINKING/STREAM WATER:   None.   Plan to pack in 1 gallon per person, per day. 

DIRECTIONS:   From Grand Junction, travel west on Grand Avenue, which turns into Broadway.  Cross over two bridges, at the next stop light turn left on to Monument Road, follow the signs to the Colorado National Monument, go approximately 1.5 miles, there will be a large gravel parking lot on the left marked with a BLM sign for the Tabeguache Trail. 

RIDING THE TRAIL:   Riding in a counterclockwise direction, the ride begins at a rather confusing group of roads, stay right and you should find your way to the loop. At mile 0.4, take the steeper right turn. At miles 0.8 and 1.1 stay right. Go either way at mile 1.4. At mile 1.6 ride up Widow-maker. The trail meets Little Park Road at mile 2.3. Go left down Little Park Road (paved). At mile 4.8, at the Yield sign at the bottom of a long steep hill, go left on South Redlands Road, which turns into Rosevale Road. At mile 5.7 go left on "D" Road. Turn left on Monument Road at mile 6 and ride back up the hill to the trailhead. 

EAGLES OVERLOOK: Find the single track that heads right just before you ride up Widow-maker at mile 1.1, stay right on the ridge. Leave the ridge at mile 1.3 (left). At mile 1.4 go down the hill to the right. The trail intersects Little Park Road at mile 1.6, go left to continue the Lunch Loop.
