Gathering Rock in Designated Open Areas

Cost:  $17.00 per ton

Rock availability:  There are various types of flat and rounded rock scattered throughout the GJFO area.  There isn't any one specific area that has a large concentration of a certain type of rock such as flagstone, moss rock, etc.  You area allowed to gather any type of rock in any of our designated open areas.  New surface disturbance is not allowed, if the rock is not exposed or sitting on the surface it may not be removed.

Restrictions:

  •   Rock can only be collected from areas open to rock collecting - see restricted area map
  •   A maximum of 1 ton, per calendar year, per household may be gathered.
  •   Rock gathering is limited to surface collecting of rocks and does not apply to material that would need to be excavated such as sand.
  •   No heavy equipment may be used without prior permission from the GJFO geologist (970-244-3036). 
  •   Off-highway vehicle use restrictions apply.
