Pink gravel, baked shale, and sandstone clinker can be purchased for $1.65 per cubic yard. Directions: From Grand Junction take I-70 west to the Fruita Exit. At the off ramp go right to Hwy 6 & 50. Turn left, on to Hwy 6 & 50 to 16 Road. Go right on to16 Road and drive approximately 17 miles to the Book Cliffs. Turn right on to a short access trail that crosses Big Salt Wash which leads directly to the community pit. The rock itself is very hard and may be suitable for roadbase or landscaping purposes.
