The Classic Vernal style is typified by anthropomorphs featuring broad shoulders and narrow waists, often referred to as trapezoid bodies, with chest/neck adornments, and head ornaments. Often they wear earrings and are shown holding objects. Animals, often sheep, and geometric designs are also common.

(Clockwise from upper left) Dragon Trail panels: the Shield Site’s namesake, and elements resembling Fremont figurines and diagnostic Classic Vernal facial features. In Canyon Pintado: an anthropomorph carrying round objects in each hand, an anthropomorph assembly, and incised anthropomorphs with elaborate chest adornments.
