- Piceance-East Douglas HMA New Fence Construction: The BLM is now asking for public feedback regarding the proposd construction of five segments of a Herd Management Area fence in Rio Blanco County. The proposed fences would serve to improve management of wild horses within the Piceance-East Douglas HMA. The 137 mile perimeter of the HMA is not adequately fenced and wild horses can leave the HMA. Wild horses leaving the HMA are at risk of vehicle collisions and pose concerns to natural resources on both public and private land. The BLM is preparing an Environmental Assessment for construction of these five fence segments and is looking for feedback from the public regarding issues, impacts, and potential alternatives that should be addressed in the EA. Detailed information including maps and other alternatives considered can be found inthe proposed action. The 15-day public scoping period begins on February 24, 2014 and ends on March 10, 2014. Please direct comments and questions to Melissa Kindall, BLM WRFO, 220 East Market St., Meeker, CO 81641 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include "HMA Fence" in the subject line of all emails.
