Volunteers

The BLM relies on volunteers to help accomplish important projects. Each year, nearly 2,000 volunteers contribute more than 100,000 hours valued at more than $1.5 million. No matter what your background, age, or interest, there are opportunities for you to become a BLM volunteer. You can work individually or as part of a group. Projects can range from short-term, one-day adventures to season-long commitments.

Volunteer opportunities may include:

  • Maintaining interpretive sites
  • Serving as campground hosts or trail guides
  • Conducting inventories and identifying plants
  • Maintaining wildlife habitats
  • Revegetating wildlife and riparian areas
  • Erecting signs and fences
  • Constructing or maintaining facilities
  • Assisting with habitat improvement projects
