Within the Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area lies the Gunnison Gorge Wilderness. This area encompasses a unique double canyon of black granite and colorful sandstone layers carved by the Gunnison River. Visitors here can enjoy peaceful horseback riding, hiking and camping in a remote backcountry setting. In addition, there are wildlife viewing opportunities, as well as an outstanding Gold Medal trout fishery. Whitewater rapids ranging from class II to IV make for challenging rafting, kayaking and canoeing adventures.

Directions:  From Montrose, travel north on US-50 and continue for 9.2 miles. Turn right onto Falcon Road and continue for 3.6 miles. The road will curve slightly left and become Peach Valley Road. Look for the Bobcat, Chukar, Duncan and Ute Trailheads.
