The trails winding through Emerald Mountain Recreation Area are excellent for mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding. Visitors can also enjoy Nordic skiing. A variety of natural areas create spectacular views of landscapes lushly vegetated with Gambel oak, aspens, sage, and pine. Springs and large cottonwoods provide habitats that are ideal for wildlife viewing and bird watching. This area also provides numerous hunting opportunities.

  • Day use only area
  • No motorized vehicles
  • Seasonal closure from December 1 to June 30
  • Available in Steamboat Springs: lodging, restaurants and shops

Directions:  To the eastern side: from Steamboat Springs, travel south on County Road 14. Turn right onto Elk Lane, and then turn right onto Bear Trail. To the western side: from Steamboat Springs, travel west on County Road, and then turn left onto County Road 45.
