North Sand Hills Recreation Area

Sandy landscape

The North Sand Hills Recreation Area is the only sand off-highway vehicle recreation area in Colorado. The dunes here provide a unique riding opportunity, especially for ATVs and sandrails. The trail system begins in the sand, winds through aspens and sagebrush, before leading to the dunes and up into Colorado State Forest and US Forest Service lands. A developed campground is available for overnight stays, and there are also dispersed camping locations throughout the area.
