Located within the San Juan Mountains, Uncompahgre Wilderness encompasses rolling alpine tundra meadows, rock castles and densely forested canyons. The area boasts two fourteeners and more than 34 peaks that tower over 13,000 feet in elevation. Several forks of the Cimarron River roar through the Wilderness, and numerous alpine lakes and streams are scattered throughout. More than 100 miles of trails provide outstanding opportunities for hiking, horseback riding and a variety of other a recreational activities.
