Eagle River Recreation Area

Kayaker on the Eagle RiverEagle River Recreation Area provides year-round opportunities for whitewater rafting, and it is a popular place for fly fishing. The river is habitat primarily to brown and rainbow trout, but brook and cutthroat trout are occasionally found as well. Bald eagles, blue herons, ducks, geese and other raptors all inhabit the area. The landscape includes colorful geology, an inactive volcanic crater, lava flows and rugged cliffs. Visitors can enjoy a variety of natural scenery, as well as agricultural landscapes that include horse pastures. Gypsum Campground and Wolcott Campground are available for overnight stays.
