Cross-country skiing

With unique wintertime weather conditions, winter recreation opportunities abound throughout Colorado. These include extreme downhill skiing, backcountry skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Visitors can explore stunning landscapes with a variety of terrains, elevations and slopes.

Alpine Triangle Recreation Area

With three fourteeners and a number of alpine peaks at about 13,000 feet in elevation, Alpine Triangle Recreation Area features snowfields that are outstanding for a variety of winter recreational activities. Visitors can enjoy downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and more.

Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area

Oh Be Joyful Recreation Area

Oh Be Joyful Recreation Area is a high elevation location with views of spectacular mountainsides, beautiful wildflowers and waterfalls. With such striking landscapes, visitors will love cross-country skiing and snowshoeing here.

Powderhorn Wilderness

The higher elevations of Powderhorn Wilderness area characterized by alpine tundra and high alpine lakes, such as Powderhorn Lakes and Devil's Lake. During the winter months, visitors can enjoy this scenic area while cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Silverton Recreation Area

For experienced skiers looking for further challenges, the Silervton Ski Area is a 1,300-acre extreme ski area meant for experts only. There are also snowmobile trails running through the Silverton Recreation Area.

Wolford Mountain Recreation Area

Wolford Mountain Recreation Area offers a variety of recreational activities. During the winter months, visitors can take exciting rides on the snowmobile trails that run through the area.
