Visitors will find a number of excellent locations for horseback riding along the Alpine Loop Backcountry Byway. These include the Alpine Gulch, Catract Gulch, Cooper Creek, Cuba Gulch, Waterdog Lake and Williams Creek Trails, where the landscapes provide views of stunning mountains and valleys.

High desert landscapes characterize Bangs Canyon Recreation Area. A number of trails extending from Bangs Canyon Trailhead offer equestrians outstanding opportunities to enjoy the beautiful scenery here.

At Dominguez Canyon Wilderness, premier trails running alongside Big Dominguez Creek and Little Dominguez Creek provide some of the best horseback riding within Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area. Turnpikes and check steps ensure quality riding experiences.

The remote Hack Lake Recreation Area provides magnificent views of rolling hills and jagged cliffs. With such beautiful scenery, this is a wonderful place for visitors to enjoy horseback riding. Tours are also available.

The Powderhorn Wilderness area's 45 miles of trails provide opportunities for a variety of recreational activities, including horseback riding. Popular routes include the Devil's Creek, East Fork, Middle Fork, Powderhorn Lakes and Powderhorn Park Trails.
