Oil and Gas Lease Sale Nominated Parcels

The Bureau of Land Management, Colorado State Office has received nominations for the May 2015 Competitive Oil & Gas Lease Sale on the following proposed parcels to lease for oil and gas development. This requires the preparation of an environmental assessment (EA) by each BLM Field Office.

The Royal Gorge Field Office is scoping 42 parcels totaling 11,100 acres for this lease sale. As part of the environmental review process, BLM Colorado is also analyzing an additional seven parcels totaling 2,000 acres for lease reinstatement.

Per Instruction Memorandum No. 2013-177, all BLM offices must review applicable Resource Management Plans (RMP) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation before approving or denying an oil and gas petition to reinstate a lease.

This process is done to:
1) Ensure that reinstating the lease is in conformance with the existing RMP.
2) Evaluate the adequacy of existing NEPA analysis and documentation related to the lease parcel; and
3) Complete any new or supplemental NEPA analysis and documentation, if necessary, to address resource issues that have developed since the BLM originally issued the lease.

Provide your comments no later than September 8, 2014.
