Location: The Upper Grape Creek WSA is located in Fremont and Custer counties, approximately 10 miles southwest of Cañon City.
Flora & Fauna: Vegetation consists mainly of pinyon and juniper, willows, cottonwoods, ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, rabbitbrush, yucca, cholla, and prickly pear cactus. Fauna includes mule deer, mountain lion, bighorn sheep, black bear, various small mammals, wild turkey, various species of raptors, and numerous smaller birds. Grape Creek contains trout and non-game fish species, but fishing is often poor.
Recreation: Activities include hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, and photography. For more information visit the Recreation page. Please note that though unconfined recreation is encouraged in wilderness study areas, specific types of recreation may be barred from a specific area to prevent degradation of natural conditions.
