Description:

Abstract:: This data set consist of digital data describing BLM Wilderness Area (WLD) Boundaries for the State of Colorado. The data set includes 1:24,000 wld maps from BLM District Montrose. At this time BLM type wilderness only exsist in this former District.
Data set is projected into UTM zone 13. Individual coverages were merged into a single coverage. The file was checked for polygon topology, dangles, and slivers. Any errors of this kind were corrected before creating the E00 ArcInfo interchange file.

Line work also attributted to national standard. Data were check against original manuscripts and updates were made where applicable.

Data were sent Colorado State Office where GIS Specialist merged data into statewide BLM Wilderness Coverage. Metadata imported from previous coverage. Adjusted boundaries for the Gunnison Gorge Wilderness Area to match current Land Ownership Boundaries. Also some boundary adjustments for the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness Area to match Digital Ortho Photo Quads.

Process_Description:: Added Dominguez Canyons Wilderness Area to dataset. The boundary was obtained from the BLM Grand Junction Field Office. The area was originally a wilderness study area but has now been converted to a wilderness area.

Process_Description:: Adjusted Southern most boundary. Original description on boundary was: 30 foot buffer north of road. Looked at original manuscript and it indicated a 300 foot buffer from road. Aquired GPS roads from Uncomphagre Office and ran a 300 foot buffer from that data source. Adjusted the boundary to the new buffer zone.
Private Land was still in conflect with Wilderness boundary after boundary adjustment. See: Section 20 Township 47 North Range 15 West. Adjusted Wilderness boundary to adjoin private land in this area pending re-survey.
While making these edits the editor noticed that the boundary needed further adjustment where boundary is the same as the survey grid. Adjusted Wilderness Boundary to GCDB survey grid where line were meant to be the same.

This value refers to the serialized case file number for each
wilderness area. This field should be uppercase. For example:
CO-030-338

WLD_NAME
This value refers to the offical name of the wilderness. For
example: Gunnision Gorge.

WLD_STATE
This value refers to the administrative State for the wilderness.
For example: CO for Colorado

TYPE
This value refers to the title of the wilderness area as refered
to by congress. For example, BLM Wilderness Area or BLM
Congressionally Designated Management Area.

Item Definitions:

WLD_DEF_FEATURE
This value refers to the natural, manmade, or mapping feature that
represents the Wilderness boundary. This value is recorded on each arc.
For example, if a portion of the Wilderness boundary follows a stream, the
def_feature would be stream, if following a contour line , the
def_feature would be contour, etc. If the def_feature was not used
when digitizing or updating this theme this field should be blank.

WLD_COORD_SOURCE
This value refers to the actual source of the defining feature.
It is the digital map source of the original arc that makes up the
Wilderness boundary. For example , if a portion of the boundary is a contour
line and the line was digitized from a 24K USGS Quadrangle the
coord_source would be USGS 24K QUAD.
