Benefits to Colorado

During 1993, over $68 million in royalties were collected on minerals produced from the federal lands in Colorado. More than $34 million were returned to the state. In addition, state and county governments obtained millions of dollars from severance and ad valorem taxes on federal mineral production and $3.3 million from rental and bonus revenues.

Since 1920, over $1.2 billion in royalties have been paid on federal minerals produced in Colorado.

Federal minerals production in Colorado compares to other BLM states as:

  • Highest carbon dioxide production
  • Third highest natural gas production
  • Third highest total federal mineralroyalties production
  • Fourth highest oil production
  • Fourth highest coal production
