The GIS data is created from the LR2000 data base quartely. Data is processed using the most current GCDB data (Survey Grid) and the LR2000 database legal land descriptions for oil and gas geophysical permit areas using Carteview software program which matches LLD descriptions to GCDB features. Some polygons are not processed due to the lack of GCDB data and/or complex legal descriptions that do not match or "Exclued" certain areas like Rights-of-Ways or Reservoirs. Any records not process are written to a errors .txt file. The error file is included with this data set so that the user can see what records did not process. If the user of this data is familiar with legal descriptions they could manually create the missing geometry and attributes for the GIS layer. BLM Colorado does not always process missing records from the error file in this GIS layer due to time contraints and man hour limits.

The LR2000 database is a flat file that is updated daily by BLM specialist's. It contains all ot the attribute fields that describe what the data is and where the data is in relation to Meridian, Township, Range, Section, etc..., one of the attribute fields is a Legal Land Description. When BLM runs the LR2000 database against the GCDB survey grid the software generates polygons based on what the LR2000 database Legal Land Description is and how well it matches with the GCDB Land Grid. There are known errors in the LR2000 database and there are also problem areas or areas that are incomplete in the GCDB Land Grid. Both of these source documents are being updated and improved on as time goes by. A flat file (error file) is generated during this process that hold all of the records that did not process. The error file is part of the dataset and should be used by the user of this data to identify polygons that did not generate.

Oil and gas geophysical permit areas are extracted from the BLM Case Recordation database using the standard "Oil & Gas Geophysical Permit Area" query in Premier Data Service's PDS Studio software. The leases are run through Premier Data Service's LotFinder software to increase the precision of the lease locations.
