Abstract:

This data set contains the Active Mining Claims for the State of Colorado, derived from Legal Land Descriptions (LLD) contained in the US Bureau of Land Management LR2000 Database, and geocoded (mapped) using the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) / Geographic Coordinate Data Base (GCBD) derived from the most accurate survey data available through BLM Cadastral Survey workforce.

Purpose:

To identify Active Mining Claims areas, and to display on a map.

Supplemental_Information:

Description of the Error Spreadsheet: BLM uses a Python script to automatically generate polygon shapefiles from legal land descriptions contained in LR2000 records. The script does this by looking for a polygon in BLM's GCDB database to match the LR2000 land description and then cloning or subdividing the polygon in the new shapefile. The error spreadsheet that accompanies the shapefile contains LR2000 records which the script wasn't able to match to GCDB polygons. This typically occurs for one of two reasons. Either the LR2000 record didn't contain a valid legal land description, or the script wasn't able to find a unique polygon in the reference GCDB database to match the legal land description provided in LR2000. Following is a partial list of columns in the error spreadsheet that will help you identify the error records: PLSSID - state, meridian, township, range SEC_NO - section SURV_TYPE - aliquot, lot, tract, etc. SURV_PART - corresponds to a specific SURV_TYPE (e.g. Aliquot:NENW or Lot:3) SERIAL_NO - identifies a specific LR2000 case (e.g. CMC276628)
