The BLM is the sole Land Records maintainer for the government. All land actions (surveys, coal leases, wilderness designations, etc.) are recorded and processed by the BLM. Currently the BLM maintains millions of land records in just Colorado in a paper format. These are accessed by the public at BLM offices around the state.

The BLM has been abstracting information from the records in preparation of LRIS. All this information will be at the finger tips of the public. The next step would be to graphically display the records. Using ARC/View, the users will be able to query the land records from a graphical display. That display does not come from a map but a data base. Not all maps have data behind the picture. But the Geographic Coordinate Data Base has the data and can make a map as a side product.

So what does this do for me?

Current information faster. As changes are made to the land records they will appear on the display. No more waiting for a manual update. New survey? Changes are made to GCDB. We do not have to wait for the next quad map update (years away). We query the data base and generate a new map.

So how do I get GCDB data?

Colorado GCDB files will be served by a National GCDB Data Publication site.  From this site you can select "Downloadable Data" that will take you to a page that will allow you to download the current Cadastral NationalSpatial Data Infrastructure (CadNSDI) as a Statewide Geodatabase.  The National GCDB Data Publication site is currently evolving, so the proceedure to access the CadNSDI may change in the future.
