BLM COLORADO’S ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a framework to systematically identify and reduce impacts on the environment.
Why Do EMS:
On October 5, 2009, President Barack Obama signed Executive Order (EO) 13514, “Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance” “. . . to establish an integrated strategy towards sustainability in the Federal Government and to make reduction of greenhouse gas emissions a priority for Federal agencies . . .”
BLM CO's FY 2012 EMS plan focuses on four key areas:
- Oil and Gas Inspections
- Sustainable Facilities
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
- Employee Carbon Footprint
FY 2012 accomplishments include:
- Identified a process to track the acres of reclaimed surface acreage associated with the reclamtion of oil and gas wells.
- Identified content and quantity of products currently being recycled at each BLM Colorado facility.
- Provided green purchasing training to all BLM Colorado purchase card holders.
