This unit is located approximately 2 miles southeast of Lake City. The ACEC contains part of the Slumgullion Earthflow National Natural Landmark, which is a slow-moving landslide (technically known as a mass wasting phenomenon). The Colorado Natural Areas Program and the National Park Service designated most of the public lands in the unit as a Colorado Natural Area and a National Natural Landmark, respectively. The unit also contains approximately 270 acres of crucial winter range for elk and deer.
