Deep Creek ACEC

Location:    Northwest District, Colorado River Valley Field Office

Size:    2,406 acres

Designated:   1984 Glenwood Springs Land Use Plan

Land Manager:    Bureau of Land Management, Colorado River Valley Field Office


Deep Creek is located 2 miles north of Dotsero and west of the Colorado River overlapping the Deep Creek Recreation Area.   Deep Creek is a scenic perennial stream supporting several unique riparian associations in a narrow, deep canyon bordered by high cliffs. The ACEC was designated to protect outstanding scenic and geologic values. Geological faults and unusual erosional formations are found along the canyon. There is also a high concentration of cave and karst resources within the canyon. Deep Creek is also a Colorado Natural Area under under Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
