Areas of Critical Environmental Concern

Congress established the Bureau of Land Management's Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) program through the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976. ACECs are administrative land units within the BLM to manage areas of scientific, scenic, historical, ecological, environmental, air and atmosphere, water, archaeological or paleontological value for the benefit of present and future generations.
