BLM collocation with Forest Service in Meeker, CO

With BLM and FS office leases in Meeker nearing their expiration dates, a decision was made to construct a new building, providing an excellent opportunity for collocation under the Service First Initiative.   The two agencies moved into their new location in March, 2007.  This "one-stop-shopping" approach makes good business sense because it combines the best of each agency’s skills and resources.  Contact: Kent E. Working Together to Manage the National Forest System and BLM Managed Public Lands In and Around the San Luis Valley
 
In December of 2001, BLM and Forest Service made a decision to take the second step towards the integrated management of public lands and national forest system lands in and around the San Luis Valley. The geography of the San Luis Valley, as well as its ecosystems, land uses, and land ownership pattern makes this the perfect region for seamless management of the public and national forest system lands across the landscape. We have already come a long way toward that goal and that is entirely to the credit of the staff and management from both agencies, both in the Valley and those that support them from outside the Valley.  An integrated organization at the San Luis Valley Field Office ensures one-stop service to our customers and maximizes efficient use of personnel and funding resources to more effectively manage the land and natural resources. We have now fully implemented the decisions of 2001, placing a BLM manager in the Valley, relocating several positions to better serve the organization and collocating the BLM Associate Center Manager and staff with the Rio Grande Forest Supervisor’s Office.
 
Full line authority has been delegated to the San Luis Valley Field Office Manager and Associate Public Lands Center Manager positions for land use decisions under both agencies’ jurisdictions.  The BLM Center Manager/USFS Forest Supervisor has the overall capability, responsibility, and authority to manage the public lands across the San Luis Valley landscape. That position is directly supported by the BLM Associate Center Manager/USFS Deputy Forest Supervisor position.
