BLM’s Colorado State Office Posts Sale Notice for May Oil and Gas Lease Sale (02-13-13)
DENVER – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Colorado will offer five parcels totaling 5,577 acres during the quarterly competitive oil and gas lease sale scheduled for 9 a.m., May 9, 2013, at the Colorado State Office in Lakewood.
Three parcels totaling 2,245 acres are located in the Kremmling Field Office and two parcels totaling 3,332 acres in the Kingman Field Office, Arizona. Maps of these parcels is posted online: www.blm.gov/co/st/en/BLM_Programs/oilandgas/oil_and_gas_lease/2013/may_2013_lease_sale.html
All of the parcels nominated in the White River Field Office were deferred from this sale for further review. The National Park Service (NPS) raised concerns regarding some of the parcels due to their proximity to Dinosaur National Monument as well as other resource issues. The BLM is currently working with the NPS to address their comments.
The deadline for submitting protests is 4 p.m., March 11, 2013. All protests must be received by the BLM Colorado State Office, located at 2850 Youngfield St., Lakewood, CO 80215.

The State of Colorado will receive 49 percent of the proceeds from the sale, with the remainder going to the U.S. government. The State of Colorado received more than $158 million in Fiscal Year 2012 from royalties, rentals and bonus bid payments for all federal minerals, including oil and gas. BLM Colorado currently has approximately 4.2 million acres of public mineral estate leased for oil and natural gas development, generating more than $6.5 billion in direct economic benefits in 2011 and approximately $9.5 billion in total economic impacts.
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. In Fiscal Year 2012, activities on public lands generated $4.6 billion in revenue, much of which was shared with the States where the activities occurred. In addition, public lands contributed more than $112 billion to the U.S. economy and helped support more than 500,000 jobs.
