Christmas Tree Permits For Sale (11-16-12)
Monte Vista, Colo. - Christmas tree cutting permits are once again for sale at all the Rio Grande National Forest and Bureau of Land Management offices in the San Luis Valley. The permits cost $8.00 each with a limit of five permits per household. Trees must be growing on land managed by the Rio Grande National Forest or the BLM’s San Luis Valley Field Office. All trees must be at least 100 feet away from any campground, picnic area or road and can be up to five inches in diameter at shoulder height. Cutting trees within designated wilderness areas or the Conejos Canyon is prohibited.
In addition to the public lands offices, Christmas tree permits will also be available at the Silver Thread Information Center in South Fork; the Green Spot Garden Center and Antiques, and the Bervig’s True Value in Alamosa; and the Hometown Food Market in Antonito.
