“This site is another way we hope to get the public involved with issues concerning their public lands,” said Keith Berger, Royal Gorge Field Manager. “This is a great way to share news, photos, videos, and information about all the recreation opportunities we manage throughout Colorado’s Front Range.” The RGFO has a goal to reach 500 “likes” before any other field office in the state. The Royal Gorge Field Office manages 680,000 surface acres of public land along the Front Range and 6.8 million sub-surface acres. The field office’s boundaries spread east from the continental divide to the Kansas border, and south from the Wyoming state line to the Oklahoma and New Mexico boarders. Since the field office spans such a large area, it covers a variety of terrain and is involved in a multitude of activities. The RGFO manages nearly 90 recreation sites, 2 Special Recreation Management Areas, 5 Wilderness Study Areas, and 487 miles of streams and rivers. To visit and like the RGFO Recreation, log on to: http://facebook.com/BLMRoyalGorge For more information about the BLM Royal Gorge Field Office call 719-269-8500 or log on to: http://www.blm.gov/co/st/en/fo/rgfo.html |

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
