BLM seeks comment on commercial recreation permit application

CRAIG, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management’s Little Snake Field Office is seeking public comment on an application for a new commercial special recreation permit for big-game outfitting and guiding on BLM lands in northwestern Colorado.

Wildcat Ranch has applied to conduct big-game hunting guiding and outfitting on public lands in Game Management Units 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 201, 211, and 301 within the Little Snake Field Office throughout the big game hunting season annually from August through December.

BLM issues commercial SRPs to provide recreation businesses the opportunity to operate on BLM public lands, to provide the public the opportunity to use a guided service for recreation activities, and to ensure a fair return to the public for commercial use on public lands.  BLM accepts public comments on SRP renewals and new applications to help ensure applicants will operate within federal and state regulations as well as the terms and conditions of their BLM permit.

BLM will accept public comments on this application for a new permit through March 26, 2010.

The BLM manages more land - over 245 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
