BLM seeks public comments on two natural gas wells near Hartsel
Canon City, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management Royal Gorge Field Office is seeking public comments on two oil and gas Applications for Permit to Drill (APDs) on federal leases in South Park.
One well is located approximately seven miles north of the town of Hartsel and four miles west of the Elkhorn Road. The other well is approximately nine miles north of Hartsel and three miles west of Elkhorn road. A map of these areas is available at the bottom of this document.
El Paso Exploration and Production Company filed their applications on Feb. 9, 2010, and plan to begin development as soon as the applications are approved and the environmental assessment is complete. Each proposed well will require approximately a four-acre well pad and an access road.
The access road for one of the wells will require approximately a quarter-mile of new road construction on BLM land. The second well will require about 1.2 miles of constructed road on BLM land. All existing and new roads will be maintained and brought up to BLM standards following their use.
Construction and drilling is expected to take up to six weeks to complete. BLM will prepare an Environmental Assessment on these APDs. Before it completes this assessment, the BLM wants to hear any specific issues, concerns and comments the public would like to see addressed. Comments will be most helpful if received by April 1, 2010.

The BLM manages more land - over 245 million acres - than any other Federal agency.
