BLM Royal Gorge Field Manager Announced

Cañon City, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management is proud to announce Keith Berger as the new Royal Gorge Field Manager.

“Keith has been preparing himself to be a BLM Field Manager for a number of years,” said BLM Front Range District Manager Greg Shoop. “I have worked with Keith on a number of different projects and am confident with his ability to do great things for public lands.”

Keith graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Rangeland Ecology in 1985 and has worked in a number of positions for the BLM including Rangeland Management Specialist and a Resource Advisor, not to mention other positions in the Colorado State Office and Gunnison Field Office.

“My family and I love Canon City and surrounding areas,” Keith said. “I’m thrilled to be able to serve in a new position in the Cañon City office and to be involved in the management of public lands.”

Keith worked for the U.S. Forest Service on the Bridger/Teton National Forest in Pinedale, Wyoming and for the U.S. Agricultural Research Service in Grand Junction and Greeley before coming to BLM’s Royal Gorge Field Office in 1988.  Keith is preceded by Royal Gorge Field Manager Roy Masinton who retired last year.

Keith is married to Jolee and they have a son, Zach, 19, and a daughter, Nicole, 15.  His interests include hunting, fishing, hiking, dirt biking and spending time with his family.

The BLM manages more land - over 245 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
