KREMMLING – The Bureau of Land Management in Kremmling will initiate several annual road closures on April 1 this year, two weeks early due to extremely muddy conditions caused by low snowpack and early snowmelt. "Our spring road closures are in place to prevent major road damage during the muddy season," said BLM Kremmling Field Manager Dave Stout. "The spring and mud season are early this year, so we are beginning these temporary road closures early." Closures to motorized vehicles begin April 1 for the Strawberry Road (No. 2751) and Hurd Peak Road (No. 2765) east of Tabernash, the Kinney Creek (No. 2755) and Smith Mesa (No. 2759) roads outside of Hot Sulphur Springs, and the Black Mountain Road (No. 2757) east of Kremmling. The closures run through June 1. In addition, seasonal road closures on Wolford Mountain continue through April 15 to protect wintering wildlife and prevent major road damage and erosion problems. Motorized travel on the single track motorcycle trail over Wolford Mountain is expected to open June 1. Maps showing open travel routes on Wolford Mountain are available for viewing at the Kremmling Field Office as well as information kiosks on County Road 224 near the landfill, County Road 26 off of Highway 40, County Road 227, and at the intersection of County Roads 22 and 25. To report violations or for further information regarding these travel restrictions, please visit or call the Kremmling Field Office, 2103 E. Park Ave., 970-724-3000. |

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
