BLM Front Range Resource Advisory Council to meet (10-06-10)


Canon City, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management Front Range Resource Advisory Council will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at the BLM Royal Gorge Field Office, 3028 E. Main Street in Canon City.
The meeting will be held from 9:15 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. with presentations regarding travel management plan implementation grant opportunities, the National Landscape Conservation System, Front Range Sportsman Shooting Partnership, Park County Historic Preservation, and a manager’s update from the Royal Gorge Field Office and the San Luis Valley Public Lands Center. 
The meeting is open to the public with a public comment period from 9:30 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.  The complete agenda is available on the BLM Front Range RAC Web page at http://www.blm.gov/co/st/en/BLM_Resources/racs/frrac.html.
The Front Range RAC is a 15-member council representing a diversity of public land interests and users.  The Front Range RAC advises BLM managers for the Royal Gorge Field Office and the San Luis Valley Public Lands Center and provides recommendations on land management programs and issues.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
