BLM Seasonal Road Closures in Effect Today
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction Field Office is implementing its seasonal road closures beginning today.
Specific BLM roads in the Grand Junction Field Office are closed to motorized use from Dec. 1 through April 30 each year to protect critical big-game winter range and other sensitive areas as well as to prevent road damage. Affected areas include: the Beehive, Chalk Mountain, Grand Mesa Slopes, Lands End, Big Salt Wash and Coal Gulch.
The Coal Canyon road in the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Area closes to motorized use Dec. 1 to May 31.
While gates will be locked on some roads, other areas will be closed through signing. All of the areas continue to be open to non-motorized recreation such as hiking and horseback riding.

The BLM manages more land - over 245 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
