BLM seeks public comment on lands proposed for “Over the River” art project
Cañon City, COLO. – The Bureau of Land Management is inviting the public to comment on the proposed use of public lands for the Over the River project. The proposed OTR project would be a temporary work of art involving public lands within the Arkansas River corridor between the cities of Cañon City and Salida.
This land use proposal is considered a Notice of Realty Action and only outlines those lands the OTR project proposes to use. The NORA is part of the larger planning process the BLM will conduct on the proposed project. Before the OTR project can move forward, the BLM will complete an Environmental Impact Statement to determine whether, when and under what conditions BLM would issue a land use permit for the art project.
“The public’s input on this proposal is important in our decision making process,” said Roy Masinton, Field Manager for the BLM Royal Gorge Field Office. “We are looking for any new information the public may offer about the availability of the lands this project proposes to use.”
Based on the current Resource Management Plan for the area, BLM determined that these public lands are available for the proposed use. Resource and other issues raised through the scoping process for the proposed OTR project will be addressed in the EIS.
