For Immediate Release: September 28, 2007 Fire restrictions lifted for McInnis Canyons NCAGRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Fire restrictions will be lifted tonight for all public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management and located within the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area (NCA). The termination order is effective at 12:01 a.m., Saturday, September 29, 2007. Restrictions for all other public lands managed by the Grand Junction Field Office were lifted about a month ago. Fire restrictions within the Colorado National Monument are permanent. The decision to lift fire restrictions is based on a combination of evaluating moisture content of fuels such as sage brush, oak brush, pinyon-juniper and the weather service long-range forecast. The public is always encouraged to use caution with fire. Some pockets of public lands have received less moisture, and the potential for fire can always exist in our arid desert climate. Call (970) 244-3000, or go to http://gacc.nifc.gov/rmcc/dispatch_centers/r2gjc for information on BLM fire restrictions. -BLM- |
