For Immediate Release: August 6, 2007 BLM seeks local input on Travel Management Plan(Monte Vista, CO) The San Luis Valley Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is holding three public meetings to seek public input on a travel management plan for the San Luis Resource Area. “We want to hear from the people who are out using our roads and trails,” said Roxanne Falise, Acting Forest Supervisor / Center Manager for the San Luis Valley Public Lands Center. “Ensuring our analysis is accurate is the first step in developing an effective and comprehensive travel management plan.” The travel management plan will modify the 1991 San Luis Resource Area Resource Management Plan (RMP). The goal of the plan is to provide public access while sustaining the health and diversity of the public land resources. The travel management plan clarifies user area designations, develops a clear route designation system, addresses objectives raised by the public through the scoping process, and defines a travel management policy for the area. The public has three opportunities to review and comment on this plan: The San Luis Valley Public Lands Center will accept public comments through September 17, when the 30-day public comment and review period ends. Comments may be submitted via e-mail to: Mark_Swinney@co.blm.gov or mailed to: Planning documents may be reviewed at any SLV Field Office or on-line at http://www.blm.gov/co/st/en/fo/slvplc.html For further information contact Mark Swinney at 719-655-2547. -BLM-
