BLM hosts project at Hartman Rocks to celebrate National Public Lands Day
GUNNISON, Colo. — The Bureau of Land Management Gunnison Field Office will host a National Public Lands Day project at Hartman Rocks on Saturday, September 29. This annual workday is not only part of a national event to recognize the important role that public lands play in our lives, but it also gives the public an opportunity to assist in the care of their public lands. These lands belong to everyone—your help is needed to take care of them!
The project will be focused on improving and rerouting single-track trails at Hartman Rocks. This heavily used recreation area, located southwest of Gunnison, is popular with mountain bikers, motorcyclists, hikers, rock climbers and many others. Volunteers should meet at the Base Area for Hartman’s at 9 a.m., on Saturday, September 29. From there we will orient volunteers and then carpool to the work area. Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants and sturdy footwear that will keep them safe while doing trail work. In addition they should bring work gloves if possible, water, sunscreen and a jacket or raingear in case the weather gets stormy. The BLM will provide supervision, tools, lunch and t-shirts for the participants. Volunteers can expect to be off the trail by mid-afternoon. For further information, contact Arden Anderson at (970) 642-4454 or go to http://www.publiclandsday.org/involved/colorado.htm. We hope you can join us!
