Volunteers Needed for Fravert Reservoir Clean-up

Glenwood Springs, Colo. – Volunteers are needed April 29 for the annual community clean-up of the popular Fravert Reservoir area north of Rifle.

High Country 4 Wheelers, the Bureau of Land Management, White River National Forest, and a host of other local businesses and off-highway vehicle groups are sponsoring the clean-up, including Code 4x4, Mountain Off-Road Enterprises, Colorado Custom Cycles, Waste Management, and the Four Wheelers.

Nearly 100 people attended last year’s clean-up of the Fravert Reservoir area, a popular area for off-highway vehicle enthusiasts on Hubbard Mesa. They removed nearly 5 tons of garbage and debris.

“While this is a popular recreation area, its proximity to town unfortunately also makes it a popular dumping site,” said Jamie Connell, Glenwood Springs BLM Field Manager. “We are very grateful to the many volunteers willing to donate their Saturday to help keep this area clean.”

Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at the Fravert Reservoir parking lot, across the street from the Rifle Ranger District Office on County Rd. 244. The clean-up should be complete by 3 p.m. Volunteers should come dressed in long pants, sturdy work shoes and leather gloves. For further information contact Greg Noss, (970) 963-6084 or Chris Overacker, (970) 625-8998.
