BLM Grand Junction acknowledges volunteersGRAND JUNCTION, CO—Public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction Field Office benefit from volunteers and their efforts. On-the-ground projects accomplished by volunteers on BLM public lands help the bureau meet its land management goals. In appreciation of their hard-working volunteers, a BLM All Employee Meeting at the GJFO, followed by a potluck luncheon, is being held to honor those nominated by project leads at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, February 6, 2006. “Volunteers are an invaluable extension of our staff, and their ongoing stewardship of our public lands benefits the public lands we all love and enjoy,” said Field Manager Catherine Robertson. “Volunteers help the BLM achieve management goals and reinforces the public’s stewardship responsibilities.” BLM volunteers contributed over 32,000 hours valued at $562,000 in fiscal year 2005 for the GJFO and McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area. This is a significant contribution to the American public, local communities and the BLM public lands surrounding those communities. The GJFO is responsible for the management and stewardship of 1.2 million acres of BLM public lands in western Colorado. The varied landscapes, ranging from red rock deserts to pinyon-juniper woodlands to river terrain, provide a wealth of resources and opportunities for public use and enjoyment. For more information on volunteering, contact BLM Volunteer Coordinator Wade Johnson at 970-244-3025. ### |
