BLM works with Volunteers to Preserve Historical Sites
KREMMLING, CO — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will work along side local volunteers from the Granby Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to protect paleontological sites in the Wolford Mountain area on Saturday August 27th, 2005. The project entails building buck-n-rail fences around four sites north of the town of Kremmling.
“This group is always great to work with,” said Stacey Antilla, Outdoor Recreation Planner for the BLM Kremmling Field Office. “They do a volunteer project with us each year and are a really hard working group of folks. They even host a BBQ after all the work is done.”
The BLM Kremmling Field Office will provide project supplies, and staff members will donate their Saturday to help out with the project.
For more than five years, the church group has worked with the BLM on similar fencing endeavors to protect sensitive areas. Other buck-n-rail fence projects involved: work on Dice Hill - to restrict motorized use, fences throughout the Kremmling area - to protect archeological sites, as well as fences and bridges - to access fishing areas along the Blue and Colorado Rivers.
BLM welcomes volunteers interested in participating in such projects in the Kremmling area. For details, please call Stacey Antilla at 970-724-3039.
