BLM volunteers talk trash

GRAND JUNCTION, CO – Volunteers from local off-highway vehicle (OHV) groups will dedicate their Saturday morning to picking up trash on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction Field Office.  Members of the Western Slope ATV Association, Motorcycle Trail Riders Association and the Bookcliff Rattlers Motorcycle Club will concentrate their efforts on 27-¼ Rd., starting from where the pavement ends, from 8 a.m. to noon, Sat. June 4.

“These folks enjoy recreating on public lands and realize that it’s important to be responsible in caring for them,” BLM Transportation Planner Jim Cooper said.  “BLM values these kinds of partnerships with user groups and many times depends on their efforts to achieve management objectives.”

“We are celebrating National Trails Day 2005 and giving back to the lands we enjoy riding,” Volunteer and event organizer Cricket Donoho said.  “Regardless of your favorite outdoor activity, the public is invited to join us in this annual clean-up effort.”

If you plan to participate in the clean-up day, bring work gloves, sturdy boots, water, sunscreen and a hat.  A local company, Monument Refuse, is donating the dumpster for the day’s clean-up project.  Volunteers should call Cricket Donoho at 970-853-3069 or BLM Recreation Technician Ronn Tice at 970-244-3094 for additional information.

Editor’s Note:  Media is invited and can find the volunteers by going north on Horizon Dr., turning left on H Rd. and turning right on to 27-¼ Rd., where you’ll travel north to find the volunteers.  Ask for John Potter, Cricket Donoho or Ronn Tice.
